ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Jack Bartlett

Jack Bartlett was born in Orange, Texas in 1945. He earned a BFA degree from Stephen F. Austin State University and attended Southern Methodist University, where he received an MFA. He has also studied in Mexico and at the Hambidge Center in Georgia. His work has been in numerous competitions and exhibitions and is held in twelve separate collections.

Bartlett works mostly in oils and acrylics and occasionally in watercolor. He is interested in dramatic light and shadow in the landscape. "That moment that is unique, that will only last for maybe a few minutes--that's what I try to paint," he says. " I am interested in deep forests and the solitary experience of nature. I want my paintings, if possible , to be escape hatches, where imaginations can wander in or at least, wish they were there. I want to take viewers where I would want to go." He has travelled to national parks, forests and seashores across the United States to find the images for his works.
