Sally
Bookman
Sally was
born in London, England, where she studied oil painting at the prestigious
St. Martins School of Art. Later, when she emigrated to the United States,
she had additional art training at Orange Coast College in Southern
California. At that time, she became equally interested in the field
of cultural anthropology. Eventually she switched majors and transferred
to the University of California at Berkeley where she finally received
a Doctorate Degree in Anthropology. After marriage, and a couple of
years doing sociological research in the Midwest, Sally and her husband
moved back to California where they started a family and got involved
in the booming real estate business. Once she had established a successful
career in real estate, she looked for new challenges to occupy whatever
free time she could spare. It was then that her interest in painting
was renewed.
Rather
than continue with oil painting, however, she decided to explore the
medium of watercolor. She took college art classes, and participated
in workshops with well-known national watercolor artists. She immediately
loved the vibrancy and richness of watercolor, and the endless variety
of effects which can be created with it. Of all the comments about her
paintings, the most frequent is that her paintings are alive with a
brilliance of energy and color and that they make people smile.
Sally feels
it is an unexpected pleasure to have come full circle in her life and
to be doing what she loves most. She is a signature member of the Society
of Western Artists, an honor of notable achievement and great personal
satisfaction. Her work may be seen at the Capitola Fine Arts Gallery
in Capitola, California, and is represented by several national print
publishers for distribution in the form of prints, notecards and calendars.
