Nancy Newcomb
Nancy
Newcomb has been teaching the art of watercolor in workshops in Wisconsin,
Illinois and New Hampshire for many years. A well-known and accomplished
artist, Nancy has a special talent to impart that knowledge through
her positive critiques, demonstrations, workshops and classes.
Nancy's
art education began with a Dudley Crafts Watson Scholarship to the Art
Institute in Chicago, followed by study at Northern Illinois University
and at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design.
Her
work has been seen in many exhibitions and has won awards in the WATERCOLOR
WISCONSIN exhibit. Her work has been shown at the Jack Benny Center
for the Arts, Woodstock Opera House, the Anderson Arts Center in Racine,
Wisconsin, the David Adler Cultural Arts Center, the Wuseum Museum,
Palette and Chisel Academy in Chicago and galleries such as the Blue
Heron, J. Marc Graphics in Lake Geneva and the Briesmeister Gallery
in Door County. Nancy has also been featured in MIDWEST LIVING MAGAZINE
as one of the "Artists in the Garden" during the Rose Festival, was
featured in SPIRIT MAGAZINE, and was the FEATURED ARTIST for COLOR Q
MAGAZINE.
Nancy's
work has been characterized by her use of the sparkling transparency
of the medium and her colorful palette. She is a strong advocate of
capturing "the mood" of a landscape versus being photographically real.
As Nancy says, "The process of painting is not to identify each object
correctly, but through the elements of design, color and composition
- create something which will not be the literal interpretation of the
subject, but become a work of art through our hands."
