HEYYU User Guide
Quick start
HEYYU provides you the power to create complex sequences to fit multiple scenarios. However, for technophobes or those in a hurry, here we help you get a slideshow going in a few minutes with just a few steps. All that is required is some content of your own (photos, scans of a menu or price list, one or two short video clips) and you're good to go!
For convenience whilst you learn HEYYU, we advise using a desktop computer or laptop, not a tablet or mobile phone.
Let's rock!
- Content at the ready, on a USB stick, local hard drive etc?
- Open a new tab in your web browser
- If not already, login to your account at PiCosm.com - ?
- From the MustDash header, select ADD > HEYYU Sequence
- The Sequence Maker form will appear
- Set the options as follows:
- Video clip duration: Auto
- Captions: All off
- Transitions: Random or select your preferrence from the list
- Playback order: Uploaded
- Drag your content onto the Files area of the Sequence Maker next to the Upload icon

- The PiCosm SMART CMS (Content Management System) will be activated
- Once your files have finished uploading, click the green tick control
- Now click the
SAVE control
- To test your sequence, open a new browser window and visit https://picosm.com/x/heyyu, where x is the unique Pi ID (1 to 10 digit number) you chose or were assigned when your PiCosm account was activated.
(Your Pi can be seen in the top left of MustDash header next to the orange PiCosm logo, as per Fig YD-75-44-37 below.)
- On the Sequence Maker, click the [Start Playback] control near the bottom of the form.
- The sequence will play in a loop indefinately or until you select VIEW > HEYYU > PAUSE from the MustDash header
- Congratulations! You have just created your first HEYYU Sequence. Your HEYYU content is all managed using the Smart CMS.

Editing a list
There are two methods to edit a list
- Double or right click on the List’s clip on the timeline to view the list’s Properties panel
- From the file browser, as per YD-44-84-56 below.
Introducing AutoTime
If displaying a menu or price list, you will want to ensure it remains on the screen long enough for customers to read through the text.
AutoTime calculates how long a typical person with English as their first language will take to read a specific number of words. Therefore, when you finish any imports or edits and select [OK] to dismiss the Properties panel, you will be given the option to have HEYYU automatically calculate the duration the text appears before the next slide. That is, it automatically sets the end time of the entry clip.
YD-44-84-56
Managing saved lists
From the MustDash header, select
VIEW > HEYYU > Lists
These are displayed in the standard PiCosm file browser table. Click the
EDIT control to make any changes.

Setting clip timing
Unlike a video editor, where content is assembled and output for sharing later, the Jenesis timeline is real time. That is, content positioned on the timeline at a specific date and time will appear on the remote HEYYU display at that time too. For example, a Lunch menu clip that stretches between 11am and 11:03am on the day(s) you specify will appear on the remote display from 11am to 11:03am, a total of 3 minutes. Various repetition options can be applied such that a clip (or Sequence) repeats at intervals, say, every 15 minutes, every day but Monday and so on.
Fig 86-46-67 / 1

Fig 86-46-67 / 2
The circular drag handles at either end of the widget can be used to specify the start and (optional) end time, in this case, 11am to 11:01am
Hovering over a clip will highlight it and display its attributes, as shown above.
Various repeat options allow the same content to be programmed to appear in loops and/or at specific times every day or other period.
- From the MustDash header at the top of the page, select VIEW > Jenesis Timeline
- Position the playhead (vertical line) approximately where you want the clip to start. Drag the timeline if need be, or use the BACK or NEXT controls to jump to the previous or next day.
- In the HEYYU layer of the timeline, click at the playhead or around the date and time you wish to insert a menu or list. The Properties panel for that widget will appear.
- From the List drop down menu, select the list you desire, such as a Menu, Price List etc.
- You can make edits to the list items in the Properties panel.
- If you are not using AutoTime, drag the widget handles to select the start and end times for the content. Click the PLAY (>) control top right to check if you can read all the text prior to the next entry appearing on the display. If AutoTime has set the duration, then the
AUTOTIME icon will appear in the clip.

Introduction to HEYYU Templates
Templates are preset styles that affect how content is displayed on your HEYYU within a sequence, such as the typeface, colour and style of a food menu. One or more Templates can be applied to any of your Lists, such as a Lunch Time Menu, Drinks Price List, Men’s Hair Cut Price list etc. Templates also affect the business information displayed on your HEYYU, such as name, opening hours, telephone number, social media links and so on.
Templates obtain the information they style from your Lists (Menus, Price lists etc) and the business information you should have input onto your PiCosm account at VIEW > Account > Profile via the MustDash header.
Several sample templates are supplied with HEYYU.
Each template affects the following components of a list:
- Position, typeface, style (regular, bold, italics) and colour of the various text components, including:
- Title of a List, such as Lunch Menu.
- Layout of the main body of a menu or list
- Telephone numbers, such as for Orders or Bookings
- Page counter
- Business name
- Opening Hours
- Social media links
- Weather information
- The HEYYU logo will always be shown lower right with the software version number nearby, IE HEYYU 1.01
NOTE: Templates do not control the background colour or image.
This is done using the Image insert feature on a separate timeline layer,
described in sections
YD-75-76-89 and
YD-36-44-34 in this guide.
Creating your own templates
To add your own creative flare, you can modify and Save as… your own templates, however the supplied sample templates cannot be overwritten or deleted.

Editing a template
Once proficient with HEYYU, you can edit and Save as… any of the supplied Sample templates, or create a new one from scratch.
(The Sample templates cannot be overwritten or deleted.)
This to ensure you can use any of the supplied Sample templates in an emergency or when training staff.
Although you can control the layout of the items specified in the template editor, if there is a conflict between the positions of items, then this will be handled by the software automatically.

The titles of the components of the template are based in part on the information you input in your PiCosm Profile (VIEW > Account), such as telephone number(s), social media and web links etc.

Inserting a video clip
Got some footage of your business in action? This can be shown on your HEYYU!
Fig 56-66-58 / 1
30 second Video clip inserted after a List, such as a food menu
We recommend keeping video clips as short as possible, say a maximum of 30 seconds. Passers-by will have a limited attention span, so your content needs to change frequently and communicate as much information as possible in the shortest period, without being too quick that they cannot consume key facts.
The following video formats are supported:
- MP4
- MOV (QuickTime)
- WMV
- WebM
Video clips are inserted using the same technique as for Images. The difference being that the length of the clip will initially be set by the length of the video. You can then trim the video using the grab handles at the start end end of the clip, or manually by inputting values into the fields on the properties panel that appears when you double or right click the clip.

Inserting a 3D object
HEYYU can support displaying 3D models that can be animated in real time, as opposed to a recording of an animation that you can upload as a Video clip.
The following 3D formats are supported:

This is a visual effect that appears between one clip and another, or at the start or end of a clip. IE, a fade, a cross fade, a circular wipe and so on.
